Assuming responsibility towards mankind and the environment is one of the missions followed by KFN. To make that responsibility visible, KFN has worked on a sustainability map this year. It serves as a compass for the further development of the lime factory and also shows both the past efforts and our future goals for the sustainable development of our business. Now we have gone one step further and the Swiss Association for Quality and Management Systems (Schweizerische Vereinigung für Qualitäts- und Management-Systeme, SQS) has successfully audited our environmental management.
Recognition of the environmental impacts
With the certification according to ISO 14001:2015 we ensure that the impacts on the environment are monitored in a competent way, continuously measured and consequentially reduced. KFN thus reinforces its claim to constantly optimize the environmental performance of its business and all processes connected to it, involving the stakeholders affected. For example, its workers are given trainings to make them more receptive for environmental issues in their respective departments. This is an issue that we have looked into for a long time. Among other measures, we have defined concrete measures with a view to climate change, reducing CO2-emissions per ton of mined limestone by up to 50 per cent in the course of the last 30 years.
Internationally renowned certification
The ISO norm 14001:2015 lays the groundwork for a systematic focus on environmental issues and the stakeholders involved. It provides a frame that helps businesses to limit negative effects of environmental impacts on the organization and to develop an environmental policy tailor-made for the business. This flows systematically into the environmental management and is enacted accordingly.
Effect of the certification
The certification according to ISO 14001 confirms the economical and considerate exploitation of our resources. We actively deal with ecological issues and strive to constantly minimize both risks and environmental impacts of our business while further extending counteractive measures.
