This puts paid to the efforts to have a popular referendum against these plans. With the affirmation from the citizens eligible to vote, the legal framework was created, to mine the limestone depots in the “Gründen” and “Elggis Süd” areas, thus keeping Kalkfabrik Netstal in business and maintaining its jobs, numbering about 50.
Environment stays on the agenda
“We are very relieved by this decision”, says a happy Heinz Marti, President and delegate of KFN. “We say thank you to all our helpers for their huge support leading up to and in the community meeting. The big connectedness between the local population and our company supports us in what we do, which we aim to keep as environmentally friendly as possible also in the future.” KFN also aims to continue the dialogue with environment and climate organisations in the future, not least to inform them about the comprehensive compensation and recultivation efforts in and around its quarries as well their efforts to further reduce CO2 emissions. The fact that both development plans were adopted unchanged is especially important for the continued existence of KFN, as the parallel development makes sense both from environmental and economical points of view.
